BACKGROUND:
I am a fairly novice mountain/trail bike rider and just recently purchased a dual suspension, 29er mountain bike to be more aggressive on my local trails. During my riding I have had problems with my feet slipping off the original pedals and have bent the original pedals upon collisions with rocks and roots. It was time to upgrade to durable, high quality pedals. After about 2 weeks of reading online reviews of all sorts of platform pedals, these Easton Flatboys came out as clear winners:
SYNOPSIS:
- They are VERY tough. They proved this to me when I leaned too far on my bike while riding on a concrete embankment in an aqueduct. Suddenly, I heard loud scraping and felt my bike twitch. I stopped and examined the damage: very light scratch on the pedal.... very deep gouge in the concrete.
- Having ridden my bike through some muddy and wet conditions, I never had any problems with my feed coming off these pedals, even while bouncing down wet roots and rocks.
- These pedals are quite comfortable and offer great transfer of power to the wheels.
- These pedals are VERY HEAVY. That would be the only drawback, however, they are also very tough, so that's a tradeoff
- These pedals are GREAT VALUE! - I purchased these for about $70, significantly lower than other options that I looked at, and that seemed to be of same build quality (though less durable).
VERDICT:
Very tough, but heavy pedals that are priced very well. Great product that seems like it will last a long time.

Saw these pedals in a shop in Tahoe over the summer. Bought them when I got home and they are great. Plenty of room to move around when bouncing on the trail. Due to the extra width they will bottom out on hard turns if you ride a full suspension (only while compressed though). Highly recommended if you are not a clipper.

A long time Odyssey Triple Trap user I was hesitant to make the upgrade. When I went to MODSquad Cycles in NYC North, the guy told me I made an upgrade. I didn't know, and if you didn't know those little studs on these pedals have some kind of centrical force thing going, because there is no slipping off of the pedals. Check me on Youtube Brotherman7 I ride my a$$ off.
